Sharon Hospital CEO, Christina McCulloch, Why Sponsor The Jane Lloyd Fund Clambake?

Sharon Hospital CEO Christina McCulloch

Sharon Hospital is one of the many local businesses that has sponsored the Clambake since the event's earliest years and below, Sharon Hospital CEO Christina McCulloch explains the Hospital's lead sponsorship of the Music Circle.

"We support the Clambake because The Jane Lloyd Fund's commitment to the community reflects ours. We care about every aspect of our patients' well-being. Working with The Jane Lloyd Fund allows us to extend our reach beyond the walls of Sharon Hospital. We are grateful for this partnership and hope to continue for years to come.

We chose the Music Circle because music is the universal language. We are proud to sponsor the music circle and continue this cherished tradition.

The Jane Lloyd Fund is an essential resource in the tri-state region. The support they give cancer patients with day-to-day living expenses is invaluable. They can only continue to do so through support. As businesses in the community, we lead by example. We hope other businesses join us in support of The Jane Lloyd Fund."

Your chef this Saturday and for all JLF clambakes is Raymond Zukowski (pictured above on the left), a former police chief for 36 years, a graduate of Berkshire School, and an old friend of the Lloyd family. Ray has coordinated clambakes, chicken barbecues, and similar benefits that have raised over one hundred thousand dollars! He has spent years perfecting his art and bringing joy to thousands.

Ray and his team use the same method that European settlers learned from Indigenous peoples hundreds of years ago. A large pit is dug, and hardy volunteers collect stones which are then covered in hardwood. The blazing fire is stoked while it burns for several hours, and when it’s just embers, the hot rocks are covered with 3 inches of wet seaweed. “The flavor from the seaweed is phenomenal,” Ray points out.

The clambake goodies are then loaded into cheesecloth sacks with another 2” of seaweed while the pit is wrapped in a burlap sack that has been soaked in seawater and secured with heavy rocks to seal in the steam. 45 minutes later (at 4 pm!) your mouthwatering adventure begins!

See you at the clambake July 29th! Satre Hill, Salisbury, 2-8 PM!
