Mike Harney’s Story

A Jane Lloyd Fund Donor

Mike Harney

Mike Harney travels the world as a master tea buyer, but his roots are deeply planted in the northwest corner of CT. “Our family lived up the hill and down the hill from the Lloyds,” Mike recalls. “Jane's brother Steven was one of my first friends in kindergarten at Salisbury Central School. You couldn't miss Jane with her head full of bright red hair.”

With 11 children between the two families, the Lloyds and Harneys understood and cherished the bonds that linked them to one another and the larger community. "I remember the fire that burned a local family's barn. Our parents took us to that farm to help the family rebuild their barn. That's what you do.”

When Jane, who grew up to be a master gardener, was diagnosed with cancer, Mike's dad, John Harney, like so many in this community, felt compelled to help. “Dad created Jane's Garden Tea, using elements from Jane's garden and directed profits to help Jane.”

“Several years later, when dad was diagnosed with cancer, we fully understood and experienced the ravages of cancer. I support The Jane Lloyd Fund because people battling cancer in our community will have food on the table, gas in the car and those basics which allow the person to concentrate on the important thing which is trying to stay alive.”

We are so grateful for the compassion and generosity that you and others in our community show toward our neighbors fighting cancer. Please make a donation to fortify them against the ravages of this terrible disease, and join this community's remarkable legacy of love and support.

Thank you for caring.

“I have come into a terrible financial time and you helped me so much. You are my angels and thank you for giving me a break that I so much needed.”
